Letter
to the Foundation
September
7, 2001
Dear
Foundation Member and Friend:
Since
I last wrote to you, the Board of Trustees adopted a mission statement
explaining the focus of our efforts, which you will find enclosed.
First
grant of $10,000 awarded
In
accordance with the mission statement, the Foundation's first
grants will be made on a matching basis to enable doctors from
University Hospitals to attend the Comprehensive Cancer Care Conference
at Arlington, Virginia October 19-21. In order to do this the
Foundation is providing you, members and friends, with the opportunity
to match the gift. Your name will be included on the grant.
Honor
Roll
Donors
of matching gifts of $500 or more will be placed on our newly
formed Honor Roll and their names will be recognized on the grant.
Comprehensive
Cancer Care Conference in Arlington, Va. October 19, 20, and 21
The
Center for Mind-Body Medicine (www.cmbm.org) is sponsoring the
fourth Comprehensive Cancer Care Conference in Arlington, Va..
It is supported by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine and the National Cancer Institute among others. The conference
will bring those who are conducting the most innovative research
on complementary and alternative therapies for cancer together
with the most distinguished mainstream oncologists to evaluate
promising therapies and how they can successfully be integrated
into comprehensive cancer care.
You
may attend the Conference - open to cancer survivors, their friends
and family.
Just
recently I was asked to participate on a panel with the founder
of the Sandra Komen Foundation and two physicians, all of whom
have had cancer, to be held at the Conference on October 20th.
The topic will be "What cancer patients want and need."
Enclosed is a brochure for the Conference which is also open to
cancer patients, survivors, their family and friends. If you register
before September 15, the fee for non-physicians is $125. Please
let me know if you are attending, and I will share with you airline
reservation information and hope to meet with you at the Conference.
Fourteen hundred people are expected.

2ND ANNUAL TEA PARTY, SUNDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 11 AT BREEZY
BLUFF
Please
mark your calendars for November 11 when the second annual Tea
Party for the Foundation will be held again at Breezy Bluff. Merrill
Lynch is once again sponsoring the event and we will have an interesting
and informative program. At that time you may renew your annual
membership to the Foundation. Invitations will be in the mail
shortly. I am looking forward to being with you again. All of
you helped me go through this ordeal, and I am happy that I am
alive. Thank you.
