Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The program will feature keynote addresses from Dr. Judah Folkman and Dr. Graham Colditz.

The SIO's Third International Conference will also feature a Pre-Conference Grant-Writing Workshop, provided in conjunction with the NCI Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and four Satellite Symposia focusing on integrative approaches to cancer therapy including acupuncture, massage therapy and music therapy.

Program Details

Dr. Peter A.S. Johnstone, of Emory University in Atlanta, will serve as Program Chair for this exciting program.

The 2006 conference will feature two influential keynote speakers whose expertise in their fields is highly regarded and respected and whose scientific findings have significant implications in several areas of integrative oncology. The first keynote speaker is Judah Folkman, MD, Director of the Vascular Biology Program, Andrus Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard's Children's Hospital. Dr. Folkman founded the field of angiogenesis research in 1971 with his seminal publication proposing the hypothesis that all tumor growth is angiogenesis-dependent.

The second keynote for SIO is Graham Colditz, MD, professor of Epidemiology, also at Harvard University. Dr. Colditz is Principal Investigator of the ongoing Nurses' Health Study at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. This cohort follows 121,700 U.S. women and has generated numerous high-impact publications that have contributed significantly to our understanding of the relationship of lifestyle and cancer and other chronic diseases.

The program will be launched with four satellite symposia on Acupuncture in Oncology Current Practice, Research Methods in Integrative Medicine, Research in Massage Therapy in Cancer Symptom Management, and Music Therapy in Cancer Symptom Management.

Call for abstracts will open May 15 and conference registration will open on May 1, 2006. For more detailed information about the 2006 SIO International Conference, please visit the website at www.integrativeonc.org
