Objective:
The creation of The Helen Moss Breast Cancer Research Foundation Professorship in Integrative Oncology will establish Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals as national leaders in teaching, research, and patient care in the field of integrative oncology.
A professorship is a permanent fund whose income supports the salary, education and research activities of the incumbent in perpetuity. The Helen Moss Breast Cancer Research Foundation Professorship will permit the university to recruit a distinguished physician/scholar to develop and lead a forward-reaching program that will educate future leaders in the field, direct and conduct research in integrative oncology, and develop/direct a seamless, collaborative program composed of physicians, nurses, social workers and others in the healthcare professions to promote prolonged life and the highest quality and most humane care of oncology patients of all kinds, including children, adults and the elderly, as well as their families.
To create an endowed Professorship at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine requires a minimum of $1.5 million. At the time the entire amount is formally pledged/committed and one half of that amount ($750,000) is received by the university, the university’s Board of Trustees may formally establish the professorship and appoint an incumbent. An endowed professorship is a permanent fund, whose income supports the salary and education and research activities of the incumbent. Once established by the Board of Trustees, the university must follow the guidelines/purpose outlined in the resolution.

- Appointments are made for 5 year terms and renewable based upon continuing high level of performance
- Cost to endow a professorship:
- Minimun of $1.5 million in confirmed commitments
- $750,000 must be received/in hand to bring the resolution to establish the professorship before the university’s Board of Trustees.
- Once approved, recruitment may begin
- Remaining $750K may be fulfilled with
- Outright gifts/multi-year pledges (up to 5 years)
- Estate gifts (trusts, will commitments)
Important: This will be the first endowed professorship in Integrative Oncology at this university and will bring great attention to the university and affiliated hospitals as a leader in this most urgently needed and rapidly developing field.
