Helen Moss, Board Member of the Society for Integrative Oncology, arranged a 3-day visiting professorship for Dr. Stephen Sagar and Dr. Gary Deng to attend eminent centers in Cleveland.
Dr. Sagar, current President of SIO, and Dr. Gary Deng, next year's President-elect, stated that they were "very much impressed by the enthusiasm that the Cleveland community has for ground-breaking research and excellence in patient care."
During their visit, the Dean of Case Western University, Pamela Davis MD, announced a new endowed Professorship in Integrative Oncology. He is Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Oncology at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine. Dr. Berger became the founding Director of the Case Western Reserve University/Ireland Cancer Center which was awarded NCI Cancer Center status in 1987 and subsequently was designated an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Berger is Principal Investigator on two major grants funded by the National Cancer Institute; 1) CASE Center for Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer, and 2) Aging-Cancer Research Program Development. In 1995 Dr. Berger was appointed Acting Dean and in 1996 he was selected to become Dean of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs.
