New Grant at Case Western Reserve University
Medical School
The foundation has established a its first major grant, in the amount
of $100,000 grant for Case Western Reserve University Medical School
to provide annually a nationally known speaker in integrative Medicine
for medical professionals in Northeast Ohio as well as the general public.
Upcoming - Seventh Annual Event November
1, 2007
The Foundation is hosting its Seventh Annual Tea Party and Fundraiser
this November in Bratenahl. Hear our speaker of the year, Dr.
Peter Johnstone, President of the
Society of Integrated Oncology and Chair and William A. Mitchell Professor
in the
Department of Radiation Oncology at Indiana University
All members and donations this year will go specifically to support
the new grant.
Any donor who gives $5,000 or more will be listed on the grant. An anonymous
donor
has pledged a $10,000 challenge grant that must be matched by a single
donor.
Our message as it relates to this year’s speaker—the foundation
believes the
public deserves to know the status and progression of integrative Medical
or CAM
(conventional and Alternative Medicine) in all major medical centers
in the country.
The Society of Integrative Oncology (SIO), of which Dr. Johnstone is
president, brings
together these centers at an annual conference of medical professionals
who, in turn,
help you, the patient and families. He will inform you.

Cleveland Clinic Palliative Medicine Symposium
Helen Moss will be attending this conference sponsored
by the Cleveland Clinic on March 23-25 and will have a booth. Also say
that Palliative Medicine program at the Cleveland Clinic is one of the
best in the country and she has the highest regard for Dr. Declan Walshs
leadership in this area.
For
the last 5 ½ years since I learned of my cancer and finished
the mainstream treatments, I have considered myself to be in some ways,
hospice in that I have done things to prolong my life, hoping
that I might stay alive as long as possible. I am a candidate for palliative
care, but not just yet. So much has been done in this area that can
also be used by people undergoing chemotherapy and radiation with their
aftereffects.
As
we all know, there are side effects to the traditional treatments. For
the third time I have a broken rib because of the brittleness of my
ribs as a result of the radiation. I felt sorry for myself today, but
feel a lot better since I took an Aleve. I avoid medication as much
as possible, but sometimes it is a real welcome. There is nothing to
do about a broken rib, except to reduce the pain in order to function
and wait until it heals. I take lots of hot baths to alleviate my stress.
Well, I am functioning and feeling a little happier.
I
will write a report on this Conference to share with you. -- Helen
